Akande Tasks Students on Entrepreneurship

Fresh students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti have been charged to key into the Polytechnic’s determination to produce Industry-compliant graduates and entrepreneurs in line with Federal government’s policy of ensuring that today’s graduates aspire to be job-creators rather than job-seekers.

Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Taiwo Theresa Akande gave the charge while speaking at the Matriculation ceremony for about 3,000 fresh ND and HND students admitted for the 2016/2017 Academic Session, pointing out that "the era of depending on certificate alone is over".

Dr. Akande further admonished all at the Matriculation Ceremony held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the Institution's Conference hall, that since the future belongs to those who have extra skills beyond the certificates, all must acquire the needed skills to breakthrough.

The Rector also urged them to discover and unleash their talents so that whatever training they receive in the course of their studies will be aided by their potentials which will make them unique persons with personal identity.

The Rector who also advised the students to use every second of their stay on campus judiciously, stressed that time management is an essential tool and determinant if one’s place in the society is to be assured in the future.

Also, if wisely invested, it will have direct impact on their academic performance.

She also disclosed that the management has put in a vigilant security network to closely monitor students and sniff out the bad eggs among them because the institution has zero tolerance for evil and anti-social activities and emphasized that "any unscrupulous element caught will be made to face the full wrath of the law."

The Rector concluded by enjoining the students to make the best use of the facilities on campus so that they can derive optimum benefits. “The Management of the institution is striving hard within the limits of the resources at its disposal to make the environment conducive for serious academic work”, she added.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of students by Deans of Schools for the Matriculation and administration of Oath as well as the presentation of prizes to 'Rector's Scholars' who have emerged as the best students in their ND I and HND I classes of 2015/2016 Academic year in all the programmes in the institution.
