Make use of Expert Opinions to Confront Challenges Govt. urged

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ado – Ekiti, Dr. Taiwo Theresa Akande has called on Government to take responsive steps to use the various panaceas and insights proffered by various experts towards resolving the Developmental and Security challenges confronting the Nation.

Making the call in Ado Ekiti at the opening ceremony of the 1st International Conference organised by the Centre for Research, Innovation and Development held at the Conference Centre of the Polytechnic with the theme: Strategic Approach to Sustainable Development and Security Challenges, Dr. Akande noted that with the monumental youth unemployment in the country, it is obvious that the Nation is sitting on a keg of gun powder which may soon explode if nothing is done to address the looming danger.

She decried the lack of political will on the part of successive leaders to bring about the needed changes in the country despite the abundance of human and material resources that the country is blessed with.

The Rector urged the governments at all levels to make conscientious use of solutions provided at the Conference for the betterment of the country.

In her welcome address at the event, the Director of CRID, Dr. Rita Aboloma, noted that the Conference was well timed in view of the times in which we stand. She assured all that the Conference would be action packed as two keynote speakers and four lead paper presenters would be speaking on their different views of the theme of discourse.

Dr. Aboloma thanked all CRID members for their passion for research which has helped them to come together as one to achieve their individual as well as group goals.

A Keynote Speaker At The Conference, Prof Inyang Nora Osemene, in her presentation, noted that our growth as a country has to be homegrown as we must understand who we are and the tools which can be employed to achieve the needed change.

She stressed that our human capacity must be maximized if the country is to attain the desired Development.  Prof. Osemene advocated resilient policies and pedagogical approach among others towards tackling the development and security challenges facing the nation.

Another keynote speaker, Dr. Olusola Ololade, while making her presentation, advocated a rejuvenation of the local government since it is the government at the grassroot, noting that reduction in wastage is very crucial to attaining food security.  Dr. Ololade also observed that poor water quality brings about diseases and therefore a reduction in pulation.  She also urged government to harness other sources of electricity generation as part of measures towards sustainable Development and Security in the country.

Special Guests of Honour at the event were: the Director of the Directorate of Army Real Estate, Brigadier General Musibau Adelekan Adeniran and a Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor, Engineer Tunji Ariyomo.  Both spoke on the need to adapt to the realities of a changing world view and the new way of doing things.  Engr. Tunji Ariyomo particularly noted that if we continued with our trend of consumption in the country, things would get out of hand.  While stressing that change is possible in Nigeria, he called on engineers and researchers to offer the best advice to government on how to turn things around in the country noting that, “where there is a will, there is a way”.

The Chairman, Local Organisation Committee, Surv. Augustine Abiodun, in the vote of thanks, appreciated the Rector and Principal Officers for their support and thanked the keynote presenters and lead speakers for coming.

The Conference, which attracted many researchers and important dignitaries both from within and outside the Country came to a close on the 19th of August 2017.
