Alake Advocates Vocational Skills, Academic Discipline at Matriculation

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Engr. Dr. Temitope John Alake has urged the matriculating students of the institution to take their academic activities seriously. He encouraged them to develop personal reading plan tailored to their chosen career which will serve as compass guiding them to attain their goals.

Dr Alake gave this advice on Friday, 10th of April, 2026 during the matriculation ceremony of the 2025/2026 academic session of the fresh students of the polytechnic. He advised that ‘’as a student, you must take your academic seriously, embrace vocational skills in order to help them become employer of labour rather than joining the steady rise of unemployed graduates in the nation’’.

The Rector noted that the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti currently offers the best skills acquisition programme in Nigeria and that he would want all the students of the institution to enroll for the programme.

The Polytechnic Rector also reaffirmed the commitment of the institution to uphold discipline, integrity, and respect among its student body as they were advised to maintain modest dressing and treat their colleagues and staff with respect. He also charged all students to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the institution in order to avoid sanctions that could delay or terminate their academic pursuits.

Beyond disciplinary measures, Dr. Alake outlined the Polytechnic’s commitment to rewarding academic excellence through its scholarship award for outstanding students. According to him, the scholarship scheme is designed not only to reward academic excellence but to also promote discipline and commitment to studies among students. About 7000 students took part in the oath taking at the ceremony.

The matriculation event was however rounded up with the Rector’s award to outstanding graduating students of the previous 2024/2025 academic session in various departments, as they received certificates of merits and cash gifts.
