Alake Encourages Democracy among Students

The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti has reiterated its resolve to always give the student body a free hand to always choose its leaders thereby enabling democratic culture and ethos to thrive.

Engr. Dr. Temitope John Alake made this assertion when he received in audience the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Comrade Ladoja Shola who led other members of the executives and students leaders to the Institution.

Dr. Alake, who was represented on the occasion by the Deputy Rector, Administration, Dr. Aderemi Akinyemi noted that the community has continue to enjoy peace on campus as this is paramount for growth and stability of the academic environment.

He noted that his administration has continued to give priority to students welfare and wellness. In this regard, some hostel blocks at the Abuja hall of residence has been renovated as efforts is being intensified to renovate other halls of residence for the good of the students.

He however charged the students body to continue to cooperate with the Management for the mutual benefit of all stakeholders.

Peace at all times should be embraced and all the cardinal principles of peaceful co-Existence should be exploited at all times noting that it is only where there is peace that development can take place.

Speaking also at the occasion, the Deputy Rector, administration, who also doubles as the Chairman Security Committee, Dr. Michael Akinola said that the Institution is doing everything to ensure the safety of all stakeholders on campus.

The Institution has fenced its community, this he said has happened at a great cost but it is disheartening to see that despite efforts to fence the campus, some disgruntle elements are of the habit of pulling down the fence to create illegal routes to and from the campus.

Earlier in his remarks, the NANS President, Comrade Ladoja Shola said his visit to the campus was to fulfill part of his electioneering campaign to the Nigerian students not to be a distant president but to always be at their back and call.

He commended the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for giving students loan especially indigent students who would have dropped out owing o lack of fund to further their education.

He called on the Management to pay more attention to student accommodation on campus, security of all and interrupted academic calendar.

He further urged Student Union President across the various campuses to always explore the four Cs of Unionism and be ready to cooperate with management at all times.
