Students of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti have been charged to embrace discipline, responsibility and be focused in their academic pursuits.
This admonition was given by the Rector Engr, Dr. Temitope John Alake during the 2025/2026 orientation programme held for fresh National Diploma 1 and Higher National Diploma 1 students of the institution.
Dr Alake urged the students to take greater responsibility for themselves, underscoring the need for self-drive. While affirming the polytechnic’s commitment to producing well-grounded graduates, urging the students to take full advantage of both academic and extra-curricular opportunities available within the institution.
Furthermore, Dr Alake cautioned against what he termed the “new normal”, describing it as a growing culture among young people characterized by excessive engagement with social media, the pursuit of quick wealth, substance abuse and lack of focus to academic pursuit. The rector while urging the students to remain resolute, he advised them to place a premium on both their academic endeavors and personal development. He stated that “As you begin this journey, I urge you to place your academic pursuit above all else”. He stressed the importance of entrepreneurship, ICT competencies. noting “academic qualifications alone are no longer sufficient” and urged students to develop practical skills for self-reliance and innovations.
The Registrar Mrs. Folasade Akintola described the occasion as a defining moment for the fresh intakes, while delivering her welcome address she stated “It is my pleasure to welcome you all to this year orientation programme organized for the full-time students”. As the programme is structured to acquaint you with institutional expectations and academic culture.
She further warned against examination malpractice, drug abuse and cult related activities, calling for strict adherence to institutional regulations. In her counsel, she admonished “You should note that if you must attain the ladder of success, failure is not an option.” She wished the students a rewarding academic experience.
A series of complementary lectures from different resource persons further enriched the programme and guide new students.
