A Chief Lecturer in the Department of Science Technology and immediate past Coordinator of Women in Technical Education and Employment (WITED) at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. (Mrs.) Cecilia Olajumoke Adebayo has been appointed by the Ekiti State Government as the Provost for the Ekiti State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero-Ekiti. The appointment, which takes effect from 2nd October, 2020 is for a tenure of five years.
Born at Ire-Ekiti over five decades ago, Dr. (Mrs.) C.O. Adebayo attended Mary Immaculate Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti and the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife for her first degree in Microbiology before proceeding to the former University of Ado-Ekiti, now Ekiti State University for her M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Microbiology. She also obtained a Master degree in Education (M.Ed.) from the same University.
An erudite scholar and widely published academic, Dr. (Mrs.) Adebayo had attended many Scholarly Seminars, Conferences and Workshops within and outside Nigeria where she had presented many quality academic papers of note in her field of Microbiology, Science and Technology with many Onshore and Offshore publications to her credit.
She has also supervised many undergraduates’ projects. Her research interests are in the areas of Mycology and Microbiological Techniques and Food and Industrial Microbiology especially Fermented Foods and Waste Biotechnology where she recorded some novel research contribution to Science. She is also a celebrated author of many books.
The new Provost belong to many Professional Bodies, some of which are; Nigerian Society for Microbiology (NSM), Nigerian Institution of Food Science and Technology (NIFST), Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (IPAN), Royal Microscope Society, London. She is also a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria (IIAN) and the Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (FCAI) among other professional organisation where she belong.
Dr. (Mrs.) Adebayo had joined the services of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti as a Lecturer III in 1992 and rose through the ranks to the post of a Chief Lecturer with effect from January, 2008. Until her latest appointment, she had served as Chairman/Coordinator or member of various organs or committees of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.
Among other positions of responsibilities, Dr. (Mrs.) Adebayo has also held many professional and administrative posts such as Coordinator of Microbiology Unit; Head of Department, Science Technology, second and immediate past Coordinator for WITED, all in the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, pioneer president Organisation of Women in Science and Development (OWSD)
Dr. Adebayo is a specialist in Mushroom cultivation and her hobbies include reading, singing and researching. She is happily married to Engr. (Pastor) Stephen O. Adebayo (also a Chief Lecturer and former Head of Civil Engineering Department at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti). The marriage is blessed with children who are successful in their various fields.
