Students’ Union Representatives Tasked On Discipline And Selflessness
Members of the newly inaugurated Students’ Union Caretaker Committee of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti have been implored to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly and not lose focus of their academic pursuit while being dutiful.
The Rector, Dr, Dayo Oladebeye gave the admonition during a ceremony to inaugurate the members of the caretaker committee to oversee for the next one year the activities of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Students Union.
The eight member committee were further enjoined not to lord themselves over other students but rather to see their appointment as a call to service and to also see themselves as ambassadors of their respective families and the various schools from where they were appointed.
Dr. Oladebeye further assured them of the Management’s support whenever the need arises.
The Registrar, Mrs. Kehinde Ekanem in her charge to the student leaders stated that they were appointed to serve in order to promote discipline and orderliness on campus.
Represented by the Director, Academic Affairs, Mrs. ‘Sade Akintola, the Registrar further emphasized that the students leaders should see themselves as a bridge in ensuring unity and promoting understanding between the students’ body and the Polytechnic Management.
She implored them to always resolve and resort to dialogue whenever there are issues, stressing that the Management is always ready to listen to their yearnings. “There may be legitimate issues for which students should feel genuinely aggrieved, but as leaders, you must make frantic efforts to avoid breakdown of law and order and disruption of academic activities,” she said.
In his admonition, the Dean, Students’ Affairs, Dr. Sunday Olajide charged them to represent the interest of their fellow students in an atmosphere of discipline, selflessness, peaceful synergy and interaction.
Dr. Olajide said that the 8-member committee of students’ representatives should see themselves as very fortunate having been chosen among thousands of students, hence, the need to see themselves as servant – leaders.
The newly appointed Chairman of the Students’ Union Care-taker Committee, Semiu Olawale who could not hide his joy, appreciated the Management for its usual support which was instrumental to their appointment.
While thanking the Management, he promised to do his best to promote and defend the welfare and needs of the students as well as promotes a robust relationship and understanding between the Management and the student body as he sought the continued support of the Management and other stakeholders of the Polytechnic community.
