Giving the charge, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba (Dr.) Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe, Aladesanmi III noted that the Polytechnic is blessed to have such caliber of people who have gotten to the apex of their careers as members of Council and he prayed that their tenure will be a peaceful one.
Oba Adejugbe appreciated the 12th Governing Council members and Management team for deeming it fit to pay a courtesy visit to his office, while assuring the Institution of his continuous support whenever the need arises.
Earlier in her remarks, the 12th Governing Council Chairperson, Prof. Ongoebi Maureen Etebu lauded the efforts of the Ewi for his numerous supports, especially the fatherly role he has been playing to the Polytechnic.
Prof. Ongoebi assured him that the Council and Management would engender unwavering cooperation in its collective drive towards the attainment and sustenance of academic excellence in the Institution.
She expressed her displeasure at the aggressive encroachment and trespass on the Polytechnic land by the host community and the Suraju-Deen Nursery & Primary school owned by the State Government situated within the Polytechnic land along Ado/Ijan road. She implored the Ewi to use his good office to influence the relocation of the Primary school and to intervene on issues that borders on land encroachment.
Prof. Ongoebi added that the Federal Government cannot bear the responsibility of providing infrastructural facilities in the Institution alone. She therefore solicited the support of the State Government, public-spirited individuals, private and public organizations to help provide facilities such as lecture theaters, workshops, laboratories, access roads, hostels among others.
She also appealed to the Ewi to use his high position to facilitate the rehabilitation of the Polytechnic access road in order to alleviate the stress that the staff and students go through on a daily basis.
While presenting gifts, the Rector, Dr. Temitope John Alake appreciated the Ewi for his love and support towards the Institution at all times and assured that the Institution will not be distant but the town and gown relationship will continue to improve.
Dr. Alake maintained that the Polytechnic, in its drive towards technological advancement has done everything possible to ensure that life is bearable for its students. “The Institution is trying its best to ensure that we don’t breed restive youths. We don’t underestimate the low class, we try as much as possible to accommodate and encourage Nigerian youths to find their place in the society”, he added.
Giving the vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mrs. Folashade Akintola expressed great pleasure to the Ewi for the warm reception and assured him that the Polytechnic will continue to strive for the best and not disappoint the land.
