FPA Wins 29.8 Million Research Grants
The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti has won a National Research Fund (NRF) of 29.8 Million for the year 2025.
The Research grant which was awarded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) was won through a competitive bidding by various tertiary institutions in the country.
The Institution Research project titled: Guardian of Academic Integrity; A case study of Al-Powered Cheating Detection and Prevention in Nigeria Polytechnics.
The Research is to be conducted by a team of researchers led by Dr. Olalekan Araoye, Principal Researcher and a Chief Lecturer who has a Ph.D in Artificial Intelligence and the Director of the Institution’s Directorate of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme.
Other members of the team are Engr. Adeola Abiola Adebayo, a Chief Lecturer in Electronics and Communication Engineering and the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship, Development and Vocational Studies (CEDVS) and Mr. Olowojebutu Olanrewaju, of the Department of Computer Studies and a specialist in Natural Language Processing (NLP).
Other Co-researchers are Dr. Balogun Temitayo Elijah, a specialist in Artificial Intelligence, Biometrics Authentication and signal Processing, Professor Olabode Olatunbosun, a specialist in Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Biometrics and Mrs. Akinyede Adedamola lyioluwa, a Product Development Specialist.
The Research Project according to the Principal Researcher, Dr. Araoye was motivated by the shortfall in man-power deployment during examinations and the need to curb examination malpractices. The Research is expected to last 24 months from the date of the payment of the first tranche with the Researchers submitting periodic progress reports on the research to Tetfund.
The Researcher is expected to deploy the use of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning algorithm and Computer Vision, aimed at protecting academic integrity and curb cheating especially during examinations using Artificial Intelligence. It will be recalled that Dr. Aderemi Akinyemi, Deputy Rector Academics led a team of Researchers to win a National Research Fund for the Institution in the year 2021.
