FPA HONOURS VICTORIOUS ATHLETES
109 athletes who made the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti proud for respectively emerging as champion and runner up at the 20th NIPOGA games held in 2020 and the 3rd ESHIGA game held in December 2019 have been honoured at a special reception party in Ado Ekiti.
The athletes, had won 71 medals at the Nigerian Polytechnic Games tagged “Ilorin 2020” held at the Kwara State Polytechnic came overall first on the medals table out of a total of 31 Polytechnics in the country that participated in the games and 21 other medals at the Ekiti State Higher Institutions Games, ESHIGA 2019 thereby coming second only behind the host Institution, Afe Babalola University.
In his address, the Rector, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye expressed delight at the victories and glory brought to the Institution by the outstanding student athletes.
While commending the excellence of the athletes at both the ESHIGA and NIPOGA competitions and for making the Institution proud, Dr. Oladebeye charged them to continue to strive to write their names in gold not only at the local or national levels but at the international level.
The Rector further charged the generality of students to see and engage in sports as a serious extra-curricular activity in addendum to their academic pursuits.
He also appreciated the sports officials who spared their precious time in the training and preparation of the athletes for them to have achieved the victories recorded.
Also, the immediate past Chairman of Sports Committee, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Sunday Makinde commended the Management, Rector, sport Committee and Coaches for their relentless effort towards the advancement of sports and therefore called for a sustained support as he charged the athletes not to relent on their laurels stressing that the sky is not yet their limit but the starting point.
The Chairman of Institutions Sports Committee, Dr. Israel Ayeni stated that the glory engendered by sports excellence cannot be underestimated with respect to the global recognition and appreciation of sports.
Dr. Ayeni appreciated the Management for its usual unflinching support towards the development of sports in Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti and appealed for continued support with the provision of modern sports facilities and equipment; a morale booster for the athletes to keep them motivated and scouting renowned athletes for admission.
He as well charged the athletes to keep committing themselves to the improvement of their sports potentials as well as giving their academics the best priority it deserves.
Highlights of the event featured Award of Scholarship to some of the Winning athletes and cash awards to the various medalists at individual and Team medal winners levels presentation of trophies by the Head, Sport Office, Mrs. J.I. Abe to the Rector, presentation of Certificate as well as cash award to the distinguished athletes.
