FPA Wins 6th Collegiate Tekwondo Open Championship
The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti has won the sixth collegiate open Taekwondo championship code named COTACH 2023 by the Institution with the theme “When Lightning Strikes.”
The competition which was hosted by the Institution has in attendance over three hundred athletes from Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, Taekwondo Clubs and the Paramilitary.
The Polytechnic team at the four day event won 16 medals, comprising six gold, four silver, and six bronze closely followed by the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso with four gold, four silver and 11 bronze medals with Osun State Polytechnic, Iree coming third with four gold, four silver and one bronze medals.
The Nigerian Police team won two gold, three silver and six bronze medals, Awovarsity Taekwondo Klub of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife won one gold, one silver, Bayelsa State team won one medal, Delta state team one medal, Kebbi Taekwondo Academy one medal, Federal University, Oye Ekiti five medals, Osun State University, three medals.
Other teams on the medal table are Comprehensive Taekwondo Academy, two medals, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba, One medal, while the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro and Desert Dragon Taekwondo team had no medal.
In his remarks at the opening ceremony of the competition, the Rector, Dr. Temitope Alake commended the organizers for giving the hosting right to the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti after a rigorous inspection of facilities thereby making it the first Polytechnic to host the championship.
The Rector who was represented on the occasion by the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Sunday Olajide implored the athletes to be fair in the competition by playing in accordance with the rules and regulations guiding the competition.
