The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti gets new Rector
A new Rector has been appointed for The Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, he is Dr. Temitope John ALAKE, a Chief Lecturer in the Polytechnic and COREN Registered Engineer in the field of Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
The appointment letter signed and personally handed over to the new Rector by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu in his office at Abuja on Monday 30th January, was dated 23rd January, 2023
First paragraph of the letter addressed to the new Rector with the title “APPOINTMENT OF DR. TEMITOPE JOHN ALAKE. AS RECTOR, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC, ADO-EKITI, EKITI STATE” reads; I write to convey to you the approval of Mr. President, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for your appointment as Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to the second paragraph of the letter conveying the appointment of Dr. T.J. Alake as Rector, “the appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years with effect from 23rd February, 2023 in line with the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Act 2019”
By his appointment as the seventh substantive and second Alumnus Rector of the Institution, Dr. T.J. Alake will succeed and take over office from the incumbent sixth substantive and first Alumnus Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye, whose five years tenure will expire at midnight of 22nd February, 2023.
Born on 23rd February,1965, Dr. T.J. Alake bagged his Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti in 1986. He formally attended seven different Institutions from Primary to two different Polytechnics and three Universities, where he had obtained eight different certificates, including the HND; PGD, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering; PGD in Technical Education from University of Benin; a Master’s degree in Engineering (M.Eng) from Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka and also a PhD in Electronics Engineering obtained from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.
The new Rector is a widely published Academic, with over 56 scholarly publications, including five Thesis/Dissertation/Projects, three monographs and 48 other onshore and offshore journal articles and academic publications to date.
A full member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, MNSE and a COREN Registered Engineer in the field of Electronic Engineering, Dr. T.J. Alake is also a member of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, MNIEE and National Association of Teachers of Technology, MNATT.
After a stint as a Teacher with the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (1987-1991) and the then Ondo State College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti from June 1991 to August 1997, Dr. T.J. Alake had joined the services of the Polytechnic in September, 1997 and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer with effect from January 2015.
He has held several positions of responsibilities in the Institution including as an Head of Department, Sub-Dean and Chairman of several Committees as well as being a former Chairman of the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP.
Outside the Polytechnic, Dr. T.J. Alake had served as Sabbatical Staff on the faculty of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State between 2016 and 2017; he was also an adjunct faculty and a Pioneer Coordinating Dean as well as pioneer Head of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Ekiti State Polytechnic Isan Ekiti, from 2020 to 2022.
