DON Extols FPA For Being Far Ahead Of Others In Service Delivery

The Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti has been acknowledged as having the reputation of a well established Institution in terms of provision of quality service delivery to its students, through practical trainings and developments when compared with other Institutions of learning.

This commendation was given by the Leader of an Accreditation Team from the Council on Mining Engineering and Geosciences, (COMEG), Dr. Ebenezer Damisa during an interaction preceding the professional accreditation exercise to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology, MPRET, of the Institution.

Dr. Damisa stated that the purpose of the COMEG professional accreditation visit was to evaluate the four programs in the department, inspect the equipment and facilities used in training the students such as the workshops, library and laboratories, and to interrogate the manpower development plans in operation.

The COMEG Accreditation Team Leader however harped on the need for staff in the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Engineering Technology in the Polytechnic to be professionally registered under the Council of Mining Engineering and Geosciences, (COMEG).

He emphasized that by the Act which established COMEG, the body has been saddled with the responsibilities of regulating and controlling the practices of professionals in the fields of Mining and Extractive Industry in general.

Dr. Damisa requested Management of the Polytechnic to put more efforts at encouraging the staff in the Department of MPRET to be professionally compliant, as it has now been made mandatory that every Mining Engineer and Geologist must register before practicing the profession.

He added that the team was also expecting to see improvement in the staffing and facilities development of the department as in the curriculum and therefore promised a successful accreditation exercise, once the team’s expectations were met.

Responding, Rector of The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye thanked the team for the visitation and expressed optimism at the accreditation of the programs, noting that it would surely bring good to the Institution.

The Rector who spoke through the Deputy Rector, Academics, Mr. Olusegun Dada urged the team not to hesitate in pointing out any observed shortage in the course of their assignment for the purpose of taking necessary steps in making amends.

While mandating staff of the department on the need to constantly develop themselves professionally, he stated that it would go a long way in helping their career, and added that professional registration had become a must for all staff due for promotion from Lecturer II to Lecturer I even for the coming 2022 promotion exercise.

In a related development, during the exit interview, The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti and the Institution’s Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology, (MPRET), have similarly been commended for the cordial relationship that exists among the staff and for a job well done on the facilities and equipment used in training the students of the department.

The head of COMEG accreditation team, Dr. Ebenezer Damisa had, while commending the efforts of the Institution and department however observed that there was still room for improvement on the fairly well equipped laboratories and some necessary equipment that are essential and for critical training of the students.

The team observed that some equipment were not functional, while some are not in sufficient number and therefore called on the Management of the Institution to work hard at promptly making them available for the students to benefit maximally.

They also commended the efforts of the staff of the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology (MPRET) in fabricating local equipment and other proactive activities and researches, a development, which is highly impressive.

Responding, Rector of The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye who was represented by the Deputy Rector, Builder Sa’ad Olorunoje appreciated the accreditation team members for doing a good job and promised that the Management would correct the observations raised by them for the betterment of the department and the Institution as a whole.
