In an effort to ensure that students are taught only by the best, the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) capacity building has had their lecturers equipped with more knowledge by attending Conferences and Workshops both within and outside the country.
The Rector, Dr. Dayo Oladebeye said this at the Matriculation ceremony for the 2018/2019 Academic Session held on Friday, 29th March, 2019 at the Sport Complex.
Dr. Oladebeye said that the lecturers are also highly motivated to give their best and teach the students based on the revised curricula provided by the National Board for Technical Education which have been designed to impart the students with requisite knowledge and skills which can launch them into a rewarding career.
He also said that the leaders of today did not acquire fame or become successful by accident, hence, they should see their admission into the Institution as a new phase of life that is very critical and challenging, which can also make or mar their future.
The Rector added that the Institution has zero tolerance for all anti-social behaviours such as exam malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment and the rest, while also stressing the importance of modest and decent dressing on campus.
He stressed the need for caution in their new found freedom which often comes with some corresponding obligation as some students through their carelessness have allowed the illusion of being in higher Institution and being far away from guiding eyes lure them away from the part of seriousness and commitment to their studies.
He noted that the Institution in its bid to smoothen their stay on campus had put a number of facilities in place such as the sporting and relaxation facilities, a well equipped library, ICT Centre, publication of Textbooks, health centre, best scholarship award to motivate the new students to pay attention to their studies e.t.c.
The Rector also admonished the matriculants to key into the Entrepreneurship programme of the Institution such as the USAID/WINROCK international, IITA, FIIRO among others, such that at the end of their ND or HND programme, they must have been able to learn one or two skill or trade that can stand the in good stead in the future, adding that it is also compulsory for all students to pass all the entrepreneurship courses as condition for graduation.
Dr. Oladebeye further cautioned the matriculants against any form of vandalism because huge sum of money is usually spent in replacing the fittings as well as renovating the hostels and classrooms after each session. He enjoined them to inform their friends and colleagues to also make the best use of the facilities available so as to derive optimum benefit from it, while also warning them to desist from the habit of selling bed space to fellow students as any student caught doing that will be made to face the full wrath of the regulation.
He noted that the use of electric cookers, hotplates, or boiling rings in the hostel is highly prohibited and any porter and Hall chairman found not reporting any students using such will be adequately sanctioned.
The Rector again admonished them to feel free to visit the Guidance and Counselling Unit of the Students Affairs office whenever they have anything bothering their minds or problems that need solutions or clarification.
He charged them to protect their names in the interest of their future and also create a life -long reputation and be good ambassadors of the Institution while urging them not to involve themselves in any act that will truncate the Academic Session.
Dr. Oladebeye however congratulated them and wished them a fruitful Academic Session.
Highlights of the events are the oath of allegiance by the new students, presentation of awards to the best performing students in each school e.t.c. while over 8000 students of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma comprising morning and evening programmes were matriculated at the colourful ceremony.
