Alake, New FPA Rector Takes Office, As Oladebeye Bows Out

The new Rector of The Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Temitope John Alake has assumed office effective from 23rd February, 2023, this is just as Dr. D.H. Oladebeye the Sixth Substantive Rector formally handed over the paraphernalia of office on Wednesday, 22nd February, 2023.

It would be recalled that Dr. T. J. Alake was appointed as the Second Alumnus Rector of the Institution vide a letter dated 23rd January, 2023 and signed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu

The letter which conveyed President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval of the appointment of Dr. T.J Alake as the new Rector indicated that, “the appointment is for a single tenure of five (5) years with effect from 23rd February, 2023 in line with the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Act 2019”

By his appointment as the seventh substantive and second Alumnus Rector of the Institution, Dr. T.J. Alake has formally taken office from Dr. Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye, whose five years tenure expired at midnight of Wednesday, 22nd February, 2023.

In a rare coincidence, Dr. Temitope John Alake is assuming office as Rector on the day of his 58th birthday anniversary having been born on Tuesday, 23rd February, 1965 and like his predecessor, Dr. D.H Oladebeye, the new Rector is also a 1986 graduate of his Alma Mater, but in the field of Electrical/Electronic Engineering.

Following Dr. T. J. Alake’s graduation from the Polytechnic in 1986, he also attended three different Universities, where he had obtained four different certificates, including PGD, in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, from former Edo State University, Ekpoma; PGD in Technical Education from University of Benin; a Master’s degree in Engineering (M.Eng) from Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka and also a PhD in Electronics Engineering obtained from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo State.

Dr. Alake, a cerebral Scholar has received Awards of Excellence in the field of Engineering and other areas of human endeavours, among which is an Award of Excellence presented by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Ado Ekiti Chapter in recognition of his contribution to Engineering profession in Nigeria. He has also received letters of commendation for various other achievements.

The new Rector is a widely published Academic, with over 56 scholarly publications, including five Thesis/Dissertation/Projects, three monographs and 48 other onshore and offshore journal articles and academic publications to date. He has also attended many Conferences, Workshops and Seminars either as a resource person or participant.
A full member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, MNSE and a COREN Registered Engineer in the field of Electronic Engineering, Dr. T.J. Alake is also a member of the Nigerian Institution of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, MNIEE and National Association of Teachers of Technology, MNATT.

After a stint as a Teacher with the Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (1987-1991) and the then Ondo State College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti from June 1991 to August 1997, Dr. T.J. Alake had joined the services of the Polytechnic in September, 1997 and rose through the ranks to become a Chief Lecturer with effect from January 2015.

He has held several positions of responsibilities in the Institution including as a Head of Department, Sub-Dean and Chairman of several Committees as well as being a former Chairman of the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP.

Outside the Polytechnic, Dr. T.J. Alake had served as Sabbatical Staff at the faculty of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara State between 2016 and 2017; he was also an adjunct faculty and a pioneer Coordinating Dean as well as pioneer Head of the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at the Ekiti State Polytechnic Isan Ekiti, from 2020 to 2022.

Step 3: Make the payment through Remita into the Polytechnic Reference account with the following code: 1000060528.

Step 4: Send your request to the email address verification.reg@fedpolyado.edu.ng. The verification process will begin promptly, and the outcome of the verification will be communicated to you via email.
