Minimum Subject Entry Requirements for National Diploma (ND) Programmes

The minimum subject entry requirements for National Diploma (ND) Programmes harmonized by the Heads of Departments, Deans of Schools and Directorate of Academic Affairs using the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) 2021 Directory and approved by the Academic Board (AB) with the corresponding subject combinations in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME)for use in the 2022/2023 academic session, are as shown in the table overleaf:

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  1. WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination with Five (5) Credit Passes in subjects relevant to the programme at not more than two (2) sittings;
  2. NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) would be accepted for admission and not NABTEB National Business Certificate   (NBC) for anybody using NABTEB Result(s) in all the courses in the School of Engineering, Building Technology and           Architectural Technology Departments;
  3. NABTEB National Business Certificate (NBC) would be accepted for admissions in all other courses except those mentioned in the (2) above; However, the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering accept NABTEB (NBC) with core science subjects
  4. NABTEB *General Education) is also accepted for admission in all courses in the Institution;
  5. All candidates applying for programmes in our Institution must possess credit level passes in Mathematics and English Language. (Literature in English Language or Oral English cannot be used in place of English Language).

1 Accountancy The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Accountancy are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.  English Language; (Literature-in-English and Oral English are not   acceptable in place of English Language);

2.  Mathematics;

3.  Any one (1) of the following:

Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book keeping;

4.  Plus any other two (2) of the following:

Geography, Government/Civic Education, Agric. Science/ Animal Husbandry/Biology/Chemistry/Physics, Data Processing/ICT/Computer Studies, Insurance, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book keeping, Entrepreneurship Education.

UTME Subject Requirements:

 

–   English Language;                             –   Mathematics;

–   Any two (2) from Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts, Economics.

 

2 Business Administration & Management The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Business Administration and Management are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1   English Language;

2.  Mathematics;

3   Any one (1) of the following:

Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book keeping;

4    Plus any other two (2) of the following:

Biology/Agric. Sc./Physics/Animal Husbandry/Chemistry, ICT/Data Processing/Computer Studies, History/Government/Civic Education, Geography, Marketing, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book Keeping, Literature-in-English, Business Method/Business Studies/Office Practice, Store Keeping/Store Management, Entrepreneurship Education, Social Studies, Insurance

3 Banking & Finance The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Banking & Finance are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/ GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.        English Language;

2.        Mathematics;

3.        Any one of the following:

Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book Keeping;

4.       Plus any other two (2) of the following:

Geography, Government/Civic Education, Biology/Agricultural Science/Animal Husbandry /Physics/Chemistry, Computer Studies/Data Processing/ICT, Insurance, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book Keeping,

Entrepreneurship Education.

4 Library and Information Science The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Library and Information Science are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.    English;

2.    Mathematics

3.    And any other three [3] subjects either from the Sciences, Art or Commercial.

 
5 Mass Communication The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/ NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.    English;

2.    Mathematics;

3.    Literature in English;

4.   Plus any other two (2) of the following:

Government/Civic Education/History, Economics/Commerce, Biology/Agric. Science/Animal Husbandry/Physics /Chemistry, CRS/IRS, Entrepreneurship Education and a Nigerian Language.

UTME Subject Requirements:

 

–   English Language;                             –   Literature-in -English;

–   Any two (2) from Geography, Commerce, Government/History, Maths, Principles of Accounts, Economics, CRS/IRS.

 

6 Marketing The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Marketing are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1    English Language;

2    Mathematics;

3    Any one (1) of the following:

Economics/Commerce or Principles of Accounts/Book keeping;

4    Plus any other two (2) of the following: Biology/Agric. Sc./Physics /Animal Husbandry /Chemistry, ICT/Data Processing/Computer Studies, History/Government/Civic Education, Geography, Marketing, Economics/Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book Keeping, Literature-in-English, Store Keeping/Store Management, Business Method/Business Studies/Office Practice, Entrepreneurship Education, Social Studies, Insurance

3.    And any other three (3) of the following:

Agricultural Science/Biology/Physics/Chemistry/Animal Husbandry, Economics, Financial Accounting/Principles of Accounts/Book Keeping, History/Government/Civic Education,  CRS/IRS, Information and Communication Technology (ICT)/Computer Studies/Data Processing, Office Practice, Shorthand, Typewriting, Literature-in-English, Commerce, Store Keeping/Store Management, Entrepreneurship Education.

 

UTME Subject Requirements:

8 Procurement and Supply Chain Management

 

(Formerly Purchasing and Supply)

The Minimum Entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Purchasing and Supply are five (5) Credits passes in WASC/ NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.   English Language;

2.   Mathematics;

3.   Any one (1) of the following:

Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts/Book keeping/Financial Accounting, Store Keeping/Store Management;

4    Plus any other two (2) of the following:

Geography, History/Government/Civic Education, Biology/Agricultural Science/Animal Husbandry /Physics/Chemistry, Computer Studies/Data Processing/ICT, Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts /Book -keeping/Financial Accounting, Store Keeping/Store Management, Marketing, Business Methods, Office Practice, Insurance, Entrepreneurship Education, Salesmanship.

 

UTME Subject Requirements:

9 Public Administration

 

The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Public Administration are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.   English;

2.   Mathematics;

3.   And any other three [3] subjects from the following: of Accountancy/Book                         keeping, Geography, Economic /Commerce, Government/ History/Civic Education, Agricultural Science/Biology/Health Science/Animal Husbandry, CRK/IRK, Computer Studies/ Data processing/ICT, Literature in English, Home Economics, Home Management, Photography, Fisheries, Business Statistics.

 

 
10 Taxation The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Taxation are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.    English Language; (Literature-in-English and Oral English are not acceptable in place of English Language);

2.    Mathematics;

3.    Any three (3) of the following:

Economics, Commerce/Marketing, Geography, History/Government/Civic Education, Agric. Science/Animal Husbandry/Biology/Chemistry/ Physics, Data Processing/ICT/Computer Studies, Insurance, Principles of Accounts/Book keeping/Financial Accounting, Business Method/Business Studies, Social Studies/CRS/IRS, Entrepreneurship Education.

1.  English Language;

2.  Mathematics;

3.  Geography/Economics

4. Any one (1) of the basic science:

Biology/Agriculture Science/Animal Husbandry, Chemistry, Physics;

5.  Plus any one (1) of the following:

1 Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/ NECO/GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB- National Technical Certificate (NTC) Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1.           English Language;

2.           Mathematics;

3.           Physics;

4.           Chemistry;

5.           Any one (1) of the followings:

Biology, Agricultural Science, Animal Husbandry, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Crop Production,Tractor Mechanics, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Engine Maintenance/Machine, Transmission System, Statistics, Geography, Economics, Data Processing/ICT/ Computer Studies. OR

 

In addition to the above, NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) with a core subject from Trade Related Area such as Metal Work/Tractor, Tractor Mechanics, Auto Mechanics, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works/Welding Fabrication/Technical Drawing/Building Construction.

 

NOTE:  Only NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC)  would be accepted for admission and not NABTEB National Business Certificate (NBC)

2 Civil Engineering The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Civil Engineering are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/ GCE O’level/ SSCE/NABTEB – National Technical Certificate (NTC) Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1      English Language;

2      Mathematics;

3      Physics;

4     Chemistry;

5.    Plus any one (1) of the following:

Geography, Biology, Economics, Further Mathematics, Civic Education/Government, Technical Drawing/Building Construction/Woodwork/Metal Work, Statistics, Computer Studies/ICT/Data Processing;

OR

6.           Five O’level Credit passes in NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) which must include English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any one (1) related trade subject from Block Laying, Building Drawing, Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Woodwork, Metalwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, Building Technology, Concrete Technology, etc

NOTE:  Only NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) would be accepted for admission and not NABTEB National Business Certificate(NBC)

3 Electrical and Electronic Engineering The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level /SSCE/NABTEB- National Technical Certificate (NTC) Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1  English;

2  Mathematics;

3  Physics;

4  Chemistry;

5  Plus any one (1) of the following:

Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Electrical Installation & Maintenance Works, Computer Studies/ICT/Data Processing, Radio/Television & Electrical Works, Instrument Mechanics, Appliances Maintenance and Repairs, Basic Electronics/Electricity, Biology.

 

NOTE: Only NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) would be accepted for admission and not NABTEB National Business Certificate (NBC)

UTME Subject Requirements:

 

–   English Language;               –   Mathematics;

–   Physics;

–   Chemistry.

 

4 Mechanical Engineering The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Mechanical Engineering are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/ NECO/GCE O’level/ SSCE/ NABTEB- National Technical Certificate (NTC) Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subject must include:

 

1. English Language;

2. Mathematics;

3. Physics;

4. Chemistry;

5. Plus any one (1) of the following:

Biology/Agricultural Science/Animal Husbandry, Further Mathematics, Economics, Statistics,             Technical Drawing, Auto-Mechanics, Metal Work, Tractor Mechanics, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning           .

 

(In addition to the above), Applicants having NABTEB-National Technical Certificate (NTC) with               five (5) Credits Passes in the above must have a Credit Pass in the  Mechanical Trade Areas.

 

NOTE: Only NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) would be accepted for admission and not                                    NABTEB National Business Certificate (NBC)

5 Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Mineral and Petroleum Resources Engineering Technology are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/ SSCE/ NABTEB- National Technical Certificate (NTC) Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. English Language;

2. Mathematics;

3. Physics;

4. Chemistry;

5. Plus any one (1) of the following:

Technical Drawing, Geography, Economics, ICT/Data Processing/Computer Studies, Further Mathematics, Agricultural Science/Biology/Animal Husbandry, Mining, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting/Welding and Fabrication, Engineering Craft Practice.

1 Arts and Industrial Design The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Art and Industrial Design are Five (5) Credits passes in not more that two (2) sittings in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/ SSCE/ NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. English Language;

2. Mathematics;

3. Plus any other three (3) of the following:

Fine art, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Physics, Economics/Commerce, Literature in English, CRS/IRS, Government/ History/Civic Education, Biology/Agric. Science/Animal Husbandry,  ICT/Data Processing/Computer Studies, Entrepreneurship Education, Financial Accounting, Dyeing and Bleaching/Clothing and Textile/Garment Making, Painting and Decoration/Printing Craft/Photography, Food and Nutrition/Home Management/Home Economics, a Nigerian Language.

UTME Subject Requirements:

–   English Language;

–   Mathematics;

–   And any other two (2) from Chemistry, History, Biology/Agric. Science, Fine Arts, Economics, a Nigerian Language.

 

2 Computer Science The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Computer Science are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/ GCE O’level/SSCE/ NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. English;

2. Mathematics;

3. Physics;

4. Plus any two (2) of the following:

Chemistry, Agricultural Science/Biology/Animal Husbandry/Food & Nutrition, Statistics, Economics /Commerce, Technical Drawing. Additional/Further Mathematics, Geography, ICT/Computer Studies/Data Processing, Fine Arts.

UTME Subject Requirements:

 

–   English Language;               –   Mathematics;

–   Physics;

–   And any one (1) from Chemistry, Biology/Agric. Science, Statistics, Economics, Geography, Computer Studies/ICT/Data Processing.

3 Food Technology The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Food Technology are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/ GCE O’level/SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. English Language;

2. Mathematics;

3. Chemistry;

4. Physics;

5. Plus any one (1) of the following:

Biology, Food & Nutrition, Agricultural Science, Animal Husbandry.

4 Glass and Ceramic Technology The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Glass and Ceramic Technology are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/ SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. English Language;

2. Mathematics;

3. Chemistry;

4. Plus any two (2) of the following:

Physics, Geography, Technical Drawing, Fine Art, Wood-work, Further/Additional Mathematics, Metal-work, Biology, Agricultural Science, Animal Husbandry, Economics, Statistics, Data Processing/ ICT/Computer Studies, Carpentry & Joinery, Civic Education/Government, Entrepreneurship Education.

UTME Subject Requirements:

 

–   English Language;               –   Mathematics;

–   Physics;

–   and any one (1) from Chemistry, Fine Arts, Technical Drawing, Geography, Biology/Agric. Science

 

5 Statistics The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Statistics are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/GCE O’level/ SSCE/ NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. Mathematics;

2. English;

3. Any one (1) of the following:

Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agric. Science, Animal Husbandry;

4. Plus any other two (2) of the following:

6 Science Laboratory Technology The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Science Laboratory Technology are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/NECO/ GCE O’level/ SSCE/NABTEB Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

1. Mathematics;

2. English ;

3. Chemistry;

4. Physics;

5. Plus any one (1) of the following:

Biology/Agricultural Science/Animal Husbandry.

1 Agricultural Technology The Minimum entry requirements into National Diploma (ND) in Agricultural Technology are Five (5) Credits passes in WASC/ NECO/GCE O’level/ SSCE/NABTEB- National Technical Certificate (NTC) Examination at not more than two (2) sittings.

 

The subjects must include:

 

1. English;

2. Mathematics;

3. Chemistry;

4. Any one (1) of the following:

Biology/Agricultural Science;

5. Plus any one (1) of the following:

Economics, Geography, Statistics, Physics, Civic Education/Government, Computer Studies/ICT/Data Processing, Animal Husbandry/Fisheries, Home Economics/Home Management, Food and Nutrition, Forestry.

 

NABTEB – National Technical Certificate/General Education in the relevant courses is also acceptable.

 

NOTE: Only NABTEB National Technical Certificate (NTC) would be accepted for admission and not NABTEB National Business Certificate (NBC)

Get Your Results Verified with Ease

 

Step 1: Make a formal request to the Registrar of the Polytechnic. The request should contain the following details:

The address of your organization (including E-mail address) making the request

The name and phone number of the person making the request on behalf of the organization

A photocopy of the statement of result or certificate to be verified is attached to the application/request for verification.

Step 2: Attach evidence of payment of the approved fees for the verification. The approved fees for verification of the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma statement of results respectively are N5,000 (with or without transcript). The fee is N10,000 for both (with or without transcripts).

Five thousand Naira (N5,000) for ND result with or without Transcript.

Five thousand Naira (N5,000) for HND results with or without Transcript.

Ten thousand Naira (N10,000) for ND and HND results.

Step 3: Make the payment through Remita into the Polytechnic Reference account with the following code: 1000060528.

Step 4: Send your request to the email address verification.reg@fedpolyado.edu.ng. The verification process will begin promptly, and the outcome of the verification will be communicated to you via email.
