Rector Bemoans Poor Learning Environment Across Institutions

Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Dayo Hephzibah Oladebeye has attributed the decline in the quality of graduates produced by Institutions as the end result of lack of good, conducive learning and living environment.

The Rector who made the remark in Ado-Ekiti at the Launch and Foundation Laying Ceremony of  new hall of residence in the Institution, also opined ”that the decline in quality of output, in terms of graduates, does not necessarily imply that our academic staff are inferior to their counterparts or our students are not as academically sound as their colleagues abroad, but mainly because of lack of modern facilities/equipment for teaching and research, and also the lack of good, conducive learning and living environment”.

The Rector, who stressed that the aspiration of his administration was to ensure that the Institution ranks among the world-class best Institutions, spoke at the ground-breaking ceremony of Engr. Dr. D.H. Oladebeye Hall of Residence initiated by the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti Alumni Association.  He stressed that efforts of his administration are geared towards providing conducive conditions for learning and excellent environment for outstanding services.

The Rector called on all and sundry to support the project by contributing generously, assuring that the proceeds from the project launch would be judiciously used for erecting the new Hall for the overall benefit of the students.

In his remarks, Chief George Femi Ojo who stood in for the Governing Council Chairman, Chief Austin Edeze, commended the President of the Alumni Association, Surveyor Oyedokun Abiodun for a job well done on the pro-active initiative.

The National President of the Polytechnic Alumni Association, Surveyor Oyedokun Abiodun in his welcome address regretted the sad loss, a week earlier before the launching, of the National Secretary of the Alumni Association, Dr. Victor Ajibade, who he said was the strong pillar for the planning of the event and called for the observance of a minute silence in his honour.

Surveyor Abiodun, who stressed the importance of the Alumni in any Institution, said the Alumni Association is a key element in the development of any Institution, hence why submissions have been made by Polytechnics for the inclusion of Alumni representatives into the Governing Council of Polytechnics because of their importance as major stakeholders.

While encouraging massive donation, the Alumni President assured that every donation made towards the project would be judiciously used.

In her vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mrs. Kehinde Ekanem appreciated the effort of the Alumni Association and its members as well as everyone who had contributed in one way or the other towards the project and prayed that good thing would continue to unfold in their lives and the Polytechnic.
