RECTOR CHARGES STAFF TO EMBRACE DISCIPLINE AND EXCELLENCE
Staffers of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti have been enjoined to make sacrifices and be more dedicated to their work with a view to making the Institution attain greater heights among Institutions of its caliber and in the larger society.
This was the crux of the interactive session which the Rector, Dr. Temitope John Alake had with staff of the various schools of the Institution.
Dr. Alake who appreciated the contributions made by staff towards making the system work further called for more sacrifices on their part and also curb areas of waste.
The Rector noted that he was determined to make the Institution a Centre of Excellence, stressing that there must be no failure in any ramification. He also called for positive change of attitude towards achieving the corporate goal of the Institution. According to him, “it is important that whatever you do, do it well; work together as a formidable team, for together we can achieve”.
Speaking further, Dr. Alake said bitterness and animosity should be eschewed as the era of “god fatherism and the untouchable” is now a thing of the past. Our allegiance should be to the system and not to any godfather as God alone is our Almighty Father.
The Rector urged staff not to shy away from responsibilities, treat one another with respect, embrace the spirit of unity, and be ready to develop themselves for excellence. This he said would help them stand out anywhere they get to in the larger society.
He also appealed to staff to go beyond academic activities and counsel the students by instilling good moral values into them, as it would go a long way in preparing them for a better future.
Staff welfare he noted will continue to be his priority as whatever is genuinely due to any individual will not be denied him/her within the ambit of the law as round pegs will be placed in round holes.
In his words, a demoralized staff is not likely to put in his best into any given task, as efforts would be made to increase the amount given out as loan to staff. Equally, he said a committee has been set up to identify staff who are dedicated and hardworking to be rewarded as efforts would also be made to ensure that best graduating students are retained in the system.
Different infrastructural projects he said would begin to spring up on campus after due processes were completed on them, as this is a basic requirement for their take off.
In all the Schools visited, the Deans described Dr. Alake as the ‘people’s Rector’ who has come to right all the wrongs of the past.
They also acknowledged that Dr. Alake has solved a lot of problems bedeviling their schools through the provision of essential needs, while also reeling out catalogues of requests noting that they are essential for effective teaching, research and learning.
They prayed for God’s continued wisdom, knowledge and understanding for him as he continues to pilot the affairs of the Institution.
